Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela


Time line
1918,July 18 - born in Transkei, South Africa
1942 - educated at Fort Hare University College and qualified in law at Witwatersrand University
1944 - joined the African National Congress
After 1948 - engaged against the National Party's apartheid policies
1956-1961 - went on trial
1961 - acquitted
1962 - arrested and sentenced to prison for five years
1964,June 12 - sentenced to prison in life
1964-1982 - at Robben Island Prison,and changed to Pollsmoor Prison after
1990, February 11- released from prison
After that - plunged himself into his goals
1991 - elected as President of the ANC

Turning Points
- joined the African National Congress, then engaged with against the National Party's policies.
- argued with the ANC, got the permission from ANC to continue the Mandela's campaign.
