Lawstuff -- Adoption

Adoption is a legal process that the child' birth parents transfer the legal rights and respondsibilities as a parent to the adoptive parents permanently.
As adoptive children, they have same rights as other children. They are allowed to know their birth parents's information when they are over 18 years old, however they need permission from adoptive parents to access those information or to contact with birth parents, if they are under the age of 18. Also, the children who were adopted before 26 october 1990, can refuse to contact with their birth parents by registering a contact veto with DoCS.

Besides, the adoptive children have the rights of inheritance regarding on their adoptive parents's proverty when they die.
In NSW, the children's interest and opinion are generally considered when considering whether the adoption should occur or not.
